We are looking for a Mātanga Matua Kimi Tangata (Māori)/Senior Recruitment Consultant (Māori) to join our hard-working and successful internal recruitment team.
Key focus areas include:
- Partnering with AUT managers to provide exceptional end-to-end recruitment support, with particular focus on the recruitment of Māori staff.
- Providing support for embedding Te Aronui in AUT's recruitment processes and systems. Reviewing existing recruitment procedures and, where necessary, recommending, developing and helping embed new policy and practice to enable a mana-enhancing recruitment experience for tangata whenua.
- Helping position AUT as the University of choice for Māori talent in the tertiary education sector. Growing and nurturing channels and methods for attracting Kaimahi Māori to AUT.
- Building cultural capability within the recruitment team.
This position reports to the Senior Manager Talent Acquisition and Recruitment Partnering, whilst also having a 'dotted' line to People & Culture's Kaiurungi.

You will bring your Te ao Māori experience and working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and be naturally able to create 'safe spaces' for our team and hiring managers to explore, learn, make mistakes and ask questions as staff embark on their Te Tiriti journeys. You will have a strong respect for others coupled with an open and engaging attitude that is flexible to changing requirements. A resolute, robust and positive attitude is essential.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Five years of professional recruitment experience managing end-to-end recruitment processes for mid to senior level roles in complex organisations, and proactively searching and engaging passive talent (including Kaimahi Māori)
- Cultural expertise, including Te ao Māori experience, a working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and ideally a proficiency in te reo Māori
- Recognises the importance of whakawhanaungatanga, trust and kaupapa alignment when engaging with Māori candidates and networks
- Experience and understanding of equity and diversity issues in New Zealand, especially in relation to Māori staff
- Experience of working with Māori stakeholders - mana whenua, iwi, enterprises or community groups
- A proven track record of successfully building trusting relationships with senior leaders during recruitment processes
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- A commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and supportive of AUT’s Te Aronui journey.
