We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Health Promotion Adviser to join our Student Success and Wellbeing team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in creating a healthier, more connected, and supportive university environment for our students.
Working under the Oranga Tauira | Student Wellbeing Strategy, you will develop, coordinate, and deliver a range of student wellbeing programmes, campaigns, events, training, and activities designed to enhance student health and wellbeing across the University.
A key part of the role will be ensuring that student voice is at the heart of our wellbeing initiatives. You will work closely with student leaders, clubs, and groups, coordinate listening hui and focus groups, and create opportunities for students to shape the programmes and initiatives that affect them.
You'll also develop and deliver training, contribute to wellbeing communications and campaigns, undertake research into best practice, and evaluate programmes to ensure they are making a meaningful difference.
This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys combining health promotion, project management, communications, training, research, and relationship building to create positive outcomes for young people.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, planning, and delivering student wellbeing programmes, campaigns, events, activities, and resources.
- Coordinating student voice through focus groups, listening hui, student leaders, and student organisations.
- Developing and delivering wellbeing training and supporting student ambassadors to deliver training to their peers.
- Working collaboratively with Communications & Marketing to develop engaging and effective wellbeing communications.
- Researching best-practice approaches to student wellbeing and using evidence to inform programmes and messaging.
- Managing projects, budgets, risks, evaluations, and reporting to ensure initiatives are delivered effectively.
- Building strong relationships with students, University teams, and external organisations to support successful wellbeing initiatives.
- Identifying opportunities to continuously improve programmes and enhance the student experience.
This is a full-time, 37.5-hour-per-week role on a permanent basis. The salary range for this role is $73,400 - $90,700 per annum.

You are a passionate health promotion or wellbeing professional who enjoys working with young people and creating initiatives that make a genuine difference.
You are confident managing multiple projects and stakeholders and can turn ideas into engaging programmes, events, training, and communications. You bring strong interpersonal skills and are comfortable connecting with a diverse student population, building trust, and working collaboratively across a complex organisation.
You'll also be someone who enjoys using research, data, and feedback to understand what works and identify opportunities to do things better.
Most importantly, you bring empathy, creativity, initiative, and a genuine commitment to student wellbeing and equity.
Ngā pūkenga motuhake | Important skills and experience
- A relevant degree in social work, community development, health promotion, public health, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience.
- At least five years' relevant experience, including experience working with young people in a health promotion capacity.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple projects and activities involving a range of stakeholders.
- Experience developing, facilitating, and delivering training programmes for young people.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse student population.
- Experience analysing data, evaluating programmes, and using insights to make recommendations and improve outcomes.
- Strong project management, planning, coordination, and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of health promotion theory and practice and a commitment to continuous improvement.
The following would be highly beneficial:
- Experience developing health promotion resources, communications, activities, and programmes.
- Experience working in a tertiary environment or with student clubs and organisations.
- Experience developing and delivering education and training activities.
