The role | Te mahi
Join our Occupational Health team and contribute to the health, safety and wellbeing of university staff across a diverse and complex workplace. This is a varied role combining clinical nursing practice with prevention, health monitoring, rehabilitation and workplace health advice.
Working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to a range of occupational health services and initiatives, including:
• Occupational health assessments, health monitoring and workplace exposure programmes.
• Rehabilitation, stay-at-work and return-to-work support following illness or injury.
• Vaccination and immunisation programmes.
• Clinical assessment, advice and guidance to staff and leaders.
• Identification and management of occupational health risks.
• Health-related investigations and health promotion initiatives.
• Contributing to the ongoing development of occupational health services across the University.
You will work with staff, leaders and colleagues across the University, using your clinical expertise and professional judgement to support healthy and sustainable participation in work.
Skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
We are looking for a Registered Nurse with a current practising certificate who is interested in occupational health and workplace wellbeing.
You will bring:
• A commitment to culturally safe practice and a willingness to develop capability in Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and Pasifika values.
• Sound clinical judgement and the ability to apply nursing knowledge within a workplace setting.
• Vaccinator authorisation, or a willingness to obtain this qualification with support provided.
• Knowledge of rehabilitation, injury management and/or occupational health monitoring programmes is desirable.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and occupational health practices.
• Experience in occupational health is desirable. We also welcome applications from nurses with relevant experience in areas such as mental health, public health or practice nursing who are interested in developing their occupational health practice.
• Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams and across different professional groups.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide clear clinical advice to staff and leaders.
We will support your ongoing professional development and provide training as required to maintain and develop your occupational health nursing practice.

While this role includes some on-site clinical responsibilities, we will consider flexible working options where operationally appropriate, including adjusted start and finish times and other arrangements that support both individual and team success.
The appointment range for this role is $85,996 to $113,818 depending on qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this position.
