Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently looking for a Control Room Operator to join the Campus Safety and Security team. If you like being part of a professional team, with a focus on ensuring our people are learning and working in a safe secure environment, then come and join our whanau.
The role will be responsible for supporting the university’s core function by having a focus on people and their safety and security.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing a range of services that support the safety and security of students, staff, and guests on the University’s campuses.
- Monitor and control electronic access and CCTV across the University campuses.
- Maintain accurate and timely written records of all activity and requests during your shift.
- Coordinate emergency and incident responses.
- Be proactive ensuring the smooth running of the university by providing clear and accurate information to our security officers out in the field.

You will thrive in this role with a professional manner with people, an ability to influence and manage conflict, great communication skills, strong attention to detail, and self-management skills.
Key requirements:
- Outstanding people and communication skills including the ability to adjust to different situations.
- Ability to assess risk and develop strategies to reduce risk.
- Being team player as well as having individual responsibilities.
- Previous security experience, especially in similar control room environments, is desirable but not essential.
- Intermediate computer skills, experience with Genetec and Gallagher systems.
We are looking for people who can work a roster pattern of 2 morning, 2 afternoon and 2 nights across weekday/weekends/public holidays shifts to ensure we provide 24/7 service.
