    Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

    This role plays a vital part in supporting postgraduate research students undertaking sub‑doctoral research (30 points and above). As Sub‑Doctoral Research Coordinator, you will provide specialist advice, manage complex academic processes, and ensure students experience seamless, timely and mana‑enhancing support throughout their research journey.

    You will work closely with academic leaders and central service teams to deliver consistent, high‑quality service and continuously improve postgraduate research support.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Coordinate and manage core academic processes supporting postgraduate research students, ensuring accuracy and adherence to University deadlines
    • Act as an initial point of contact for sub‑doctoral research students, providing specialist advice and escalating complex matters when required.
    • Manage the examination process for 30‑point and above research components, from examiner nomination through to final grade confirmation
    • Support academic leaders with enrolments, results checking, completion processes, extensions, suspensions and programme changes
    • Assist with supervision matters, including supervision matching, changes and issue resolution
    • Build strong working relationships with faculty colleagues, central services and communities of practice across the University
    • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and ensure accurate, up‑to‑date information across student‑facing channels

    This is a part-time (18.75 hours per week) fixed term opportunity for 18 months.

    The salary range for this role is $63,600 – 79,300 (pro-rata) based on skills and experience.

    You bring a strong understanding of postgraduate research environments and enjoy working at the intersection of students, academics and policy. You are organised, analytical and confident navigating complex, regulated processes, while remaining empathetic and student‑centred. You value equity, uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi in your work, and are committed to delivering services that enhance student mana and success

    You will bring:

    • Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience; postgraduate qualification desirable
    • Experience working in a faculty or tertiary environment, partnering closely with academic staff
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret policies, data and regulations
    • Demonstrated customer service, relationship management and influencing capability
    • Commitment to equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and (ideally) te reo Māori and tikanga Māori
