Job Description:

TE ARA HAUORA
MĀORI HEALTH WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT UNIT (MHWDU)
DIVISION OF HEALTH SCIENCES | TE TAUTARINUI
Te mahi | The role
This is a rare opportunity to step into a kaupapa Māori role that is values-led, people-focused, and genuinely flexible. As part of MHWDU, you’ll play a meaningful part in supporting Māori rangatahi and their whānau—helping to demystify university and create real pathways into Health Sciences and the wider health workforce.
You’ll bring programmes to life for secondary students, build genuine and lasting relationships with rangatahi, whānau, and schools, and contribute to the co-design of outreach and transition initiatives. The role will also include supporting some of our existing student support activity for undergraduate students, particularly assisting during the orientation period as students begin their university journey. With supported travel and strong connections across the Māori student pipeline, this is hands-on, relational work where you can see the impact of what you do every day—right at the heart of Māori student success.
Kā pūkeka me kā wheako | Your skills and experience
We’re looking for someone who brings a strong mix of relationship-building, programme delivery, and organisational capability, alongside a genuine commitment to Māori student success. You’ll be confident working both independently and as part of a team, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders while supporting outreach and transition initiatives, as well as programme evaluation and student tracking. This is a role where capability can be developed, and you will be supported to build a strong understanding of MHWDU programmes, processes, and support structures.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with Māori students, whānau, schools, iwi, and sector partners.
• Experience coordinating or delivering programmes or events, ideally within education or community setting.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills, including data tracking, reporting, and maintaining records.
• Sound understanding of the secondary and tertiary education environment.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office tools and working independently.
• Proficiency in te reo Māori me ōnā tikanga is desired but not essential.
