Located in Ōtautahi | Christchurch, Aotearoa | New Zealand
- Fixed-term, 12 month position
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, part-time will be considered
- 4 weeks annual leave + 5 days university holidays
Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
Help turn promising research into opportunities that benefit Aotearoa New Zealand. In this fixed-term role as Commercialisation Analyst, you will support the early stages of University of Canterbury (UC)’s commercialisation pipeline, working with researchers and experienced commercialisation professionals you will:
Identify and assess invention disclosures through market research, technology landscaping and opportunity analysis.
- Help prepare business cases, investment proposals, research funding applications, marketing materials and pitches.
- Gather and interpret market, competitor, customer and industry information to support commercial decisions.
- Build professional relationships with UC researchers and stakeholders across the commercialisation ecosystem.
- Support commercialisation systems, project pipelines and team initiatives.
- Develop practical experience and commercial acumen across intellectual property and technology transfer.
Mōu | Who You Are
You are an analytical, commercially curious and collaborative professional who enjoys learning about new technologies and translating complex information into clear, practical insights. This is an excellent opportunity to deepen your capability in market validation, intellectual property, relationship management and technology transfer.
You will also be able to demonstrate:
- Professional experience (at least 18 months) in technology, product or service commercialisation, or a closely related area
- Interest in business, entrepreneurship, commercialisation, marketing or innovation.
- The ability to understand research and technology across a range of disciplines
- Strong research, analysis, written communication and stakeholder-engagement skills
- Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Holding a Bachelor’s degree with honours in Science or Engineering (NZQA Level 8); a Master’s degree in Business or another relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred.

You will join Te Rōpū Rangahau | Research & Innovation and work closely with the IP & Commercialisation Manager, commercialisation advisers, UC researchers and research funding colleagues. You will also engage with external stakeholders such as other university commercialisation offices, industry contacts, investors, funders and specialist advisers.
