About Te Mātāpuna Library & Learning Services
Te Mātāpuna Library and Learning Services plays a central role in supporting student learning, academic success, and lifelong learning capability across AUT. Through expert learning support, information literacy development, digital capability building, and academic engagement initiatives, the team works collaboratively with students, faculties, and professional services to create an inclusive and empowering learning environment. The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi
We are seeking an experienced and student-focused Learning Specialist to join our Learning and Academic Engagement team on a fixed-term basis.
Reporting to the Senior Manager Learning and Academic Engagement, you will play a key role in developing and delivering inclusive academic learning support services that enhance the success of undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students.
This role offers the opportunity to design and facilitate a range of learning interventions, including individual consultations, small-group sessions, workshops, orientation programmes, and learning resources. You will support students to strengthen their academic literacies, digital capabilities, study skills, and confidence in navigating university learning environments.
Working closely with colleagues across Te Mātāpuna, faculties, and other university divisions, you will contribute to the design of innovative and accessible learning experiences. You will also monitor and evaluate programme effectiveness, using data and student feedback to continuously improve service delivery and student outcomes.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student success while helping shape academic learning support and development across the University and supporting AUT's Te Aronui journey. Please note this role will require some evening teaching.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- experience with designing and delivering academic skills development and support
- strong relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across a range of stakeholders
- experience using data and research to inform continuous improvement
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 5 - 7 years’ experience of relevant teaching in tertiary or secondary education
- a teaching qualification
- Master of Education, Master of Applied Linguistics or similar, or working towards a similar qualification
- Curiosity about and experience of working with AI and other emerging technologies for learning
- A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and supporting AUT's Te Aronui journey
