We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual with excellent technical, communication, organisational and research skills to join the Molecular Vision Research Cluster within the Department of Physiology at the University of Auckland.
In this role, you will support postgraduate students with animal handling and contribute to the delivery of research objectives associated with a Marsden-funded project. You will work across a range of laboratory techniques, including lens dissection, sample preparation for immunohistochemistry, and Western blot analysis.
The successful candidate will thrive in a multidisciplinary research environment and work closely with postgraduate students and other members of the Molecular Vision Research Cluster. Strong communication skills, meticulous record-keeping, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team are essential.

Key responsibilities include
- Assist in the planning, setup and delivery of experiments associated with a Marsden-funded research project.
- Support data collection and analysis activities.
- Assist with animal handling in accordance with approved research protocols.
- Support and train postgraduate students in relevant laboratory techniques.
- Undertake laboratory procedures including lens dissection, immunohistochemistry sample preparation and Western blot analysis.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and research documentation.
- Work collaboratively with postgraduate students and researchers across the Molecular Vision Research Cluster.
This is a part time (18.75h per week), fixed term position until 28/02/2029, in accordance with grant funding.
The salary range for this role is $63,600 - $79,300 depending on skills and experience.

You are an organised and motivated researcher who enjoys working in a collaborative scientific environment. You bring strong technical capability, excellent communication skills, and a genuine interest in supporting both research outcomes and postgraduate student development.
You are comfortable managing your own workload, working independently when required, and contributing positively as part of a multidisciplinary team. You take pride in maintaining high standards of research practice, have exceptional attention to detail, and understand the importance of accurate record-keeping in a research setting.
You will also bring:
- A postgraduate qualification or relevant research experience; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Knowledge of biomedical research methodologies and laboratory techniques.
- Experience with, or willingness to undertake, animal handling.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- A commitment to maintaining accurate records and high standards of research practice.
