Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kaiārahi Utu Tauira - Student Fees Adviser to join the Student Finance team on a 6-month fixed-term, full-time role to support our team over the peak enrolment period.
This role would start in November 2026, and sits under Future Students and Student Operations, which also encompasses our Admissions and Enrolment team, and is based at our Kelburn campus.
Kaiārahi Utu Tauira - Student Fees Advisers are responsible for the efficient and effective management of student fees, including debt management, working within the student fees policies and processes to enable a high-quality, seamless student experience. This role provides valuable experience in financial administration, debt recovery, student services, and working with enterprise systems in a complex tertiary education environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service to students and staff by providing timely and professional advice and support on all fees related matters.
- Process student fee and financial transactions accurately and efficiently, ensuring data integrity and minimising reconciliation issues.
- Administer debt management activities, including invoicing, payment communications, financial holds, and referrals to external agencies where required.
- Manage Studylink information exchanges and apply University policies and procedures to support student enrolment, funding, and fee obligations.

This role is busy, challenging, extremely rewarding and interesting for the individual with the right temperament. You will pick up new skills, knowledge and software quickly and be able to adapt to a changing environment. You will proactively be able to create good working relationships with key staff and know the importance of seeking feedback to continually improve the service you deliver.
Key requirements:
A relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated relevant experience in finance or accounting.
Customer focused and active listener with the ability to build positive relationships and handle challenging conversations professionally.
Strong problem solving, organisational, and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing workloads in a busy environment.
Able to quickly learn new systems, interpret policies and procedures, and contribute positively within a collaborative team environment.
Please note, as this role is to support our team over a busy period, substantial pre-arranged annual leave/holiday plans may not be able to be accommodated.
