Research Officer

Job Description:

Deliver high-quality pasture research, data analysis and publications while contributing to a DairyNZ-funded forage value research programme.

Mō te tūka | The role

As a Research Officer, you'll contribute to the successful delivery of the DairyNZ-funded Forage Value Experiment and support the achievement of key research milestones.

Based in our Department of Agricultural Sciences team, you'll work alongside researchers and industry partners to conduct field and data-based research, analyse results, publish findings, and contribute to projects that support New Zealand's land-based industries.

Some tasks of the role include:

• Conducting research activities for the DairyNZ-funded forage value project
• Analysing and interpreting research data and contributing to scientific publications
• Collaborating with research teams across disciplines and institutions
• Supporting research administration through meetings, seminars and project activities
• Building relationships with industry, professional bodies and the wider community
• Contributing to service, equity, Treaty of Waitangi commitments and University initiatives

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career researcher looking to build their research profile in a collaborative and applied agricultural science environment, while working with modern research facilities and experienced academic staff.

Mahi & Wāhi / Utu | Work pattern, location & salary

This fixed term role ending September 2028 is based at our Lincoln Campus and works 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE).

The salary for this position is fixed at $88,217 per annum.

Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role

To be successful in the role you will have:

• A PhD in a relevant discipline, or equivalent qualifications and experience relevant to the role
• Strong knowledge of pasture light interception processes and agricultural research methodologies
• Experience in statistical analysis, experimental design and working with complex datasets using tools such as Excel and Genstat
• Evidence of research achievement through scholarly publications and research outputs
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, researchers and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
