Are you passionate about student success, wellbeing, and academic progress? Do you have a talent for building strong relationships and guiding others through complex university systems? Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is looking for a motivated and student-focused Student Advisor to join our Student Services team, with a dedicated focus on supporting postgraduate research students.
In this role, you will work in partnership with the Graduate Research School, faculties, and the wider Student Services team to provide holistic, wraparound support to students undertaking a dissertation or thesis. You will play a key role in enhancing postgraduate students' experience, improving access to university services, and strengthening engagement across all stages of the research journey.
Nga haepapa matua | Key Responsibilities
- Be the first point of contact for postgraduate research students needing support, advice, or guidance.
- Case manage complex student issues through a proactive and student-centred approach.
- Provide confidential, professional advice that fosters student well-being and academic success.
- Facilitate connections with relevant university services, including academic, well-being, and financial support.
- Work alongside the Graduate Research School to plan and support initiatives that enhance the postgraduate experience.
- Represent Student Services at doctoral inductions and other postgraduate events to increase visibility and access to support.
- Identify patterns and trends in student issues and provide recommendations for service improvement.

- A tertiary qualification and experience in advisory, student support, or case management roles.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- A collaborative approach and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Experience working with postgraduate students or within a research environment is advantageous.
- An allied health professional with a social work registration or social services experience would be highly advantageous.
