Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting Library Assistants to join the Library Client Services team on a permanent, full-time contract.

Key requirements:

  • Assist clients to find library materials, use electronic resources and self-service options at both physical and virtual service points in accordance with the tiered service model.
  • Respond to borrowing, access and membership queries.
  • Contribute to the management of the Library’s physical collections, including shelving, signage and the movement of collections.
  • Contribute to cross-team work and Library projects as required.

This role is busy, challenging, extremely rewarding and interesting and you can expect a variety of tasks influenced by each trimester.

Ideally, you will:

  • Be a motivated, customer-focused individual who takes initiative and has excellent communication skills.
  • Thrive in this role with an excellent manner with people and strong attention to detail while maintaining a high standard of service to both students and staff.
  • Have the ability to remain calm under pressure and thrive working with a diverse range of client stakeholders.
  • Be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team.
  • Have previous experience or interest in pursuing a career in the library and information sector.

Key requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience of providing high quality customer service.
  • A proven track record of working effectively within a team environment.
  • The ability to respond to diverse client needs and keen to work on a range of tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience of being well organised and accurate with daily tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • The ability to meet the physical requirements of the role such as the lifting and movement of books and other material around the Library.
