Position Overview

Receptionist – Massey Sport and Recreation Centre
Palmerston North Campus | Permanent Part-Time
Salary Band: $48,665 – $57,738 (pro-rated)


Are you a people-focused, reliable communicator with a passion for wellbeing and recreation? Join the team at Massey University’s Sport and Recreation Centre in Palmerston North as a permanent part-time Receptionist.


As the first point of contact for members and guests, you will play a key role in providing exceptional customer service and ensuring our facility is welcoming and well-organised.


We’re looking for friendly, organised individuals who can commit to one or more of the following weekly shifts:


Available Shifts:

  • Shift One:
    Monday & Tuesday 4.30pm – 10.15pm
    Friday 5.45am – 9.00am (Total: 15.25 hours/week)
  • Shift Two:
    Wednesday 4.30pm – 10.15pm
    Saturday & Sunday 7.30am – 2.30pm (Total: 19.25 hours/week)
  • Shift Three:
    Thursday & Friday 4.30pm – 10.15pm (Total: 11.5 hours/week)
  • Shift Four:
    Saturday & Sunday 2.30pm – 8.15pm (Total: 13.5 hours/week)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet members and visitors, ensuring a warm and positive first impression
  • Manage bookings and general enquiries (in-person and on the phone)
  • Assist with events and day-to-day operations
  • Support membership administration, ensuring accurate data entry and record-keeping
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and professional reception area
  • Provide general administrative support to the wider team


About You

You’ll be someone who enjoys engaging with people and creating a positive environment for others. Ideally, you will bring:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational skills with great attention to detail
  • Confidence working independently as well as collaboratively in a team
  • Availability to work weekends and flexibility to provide occasional cover if needed
  • Previous experience in customer service or a reception role (advantageous, but not essential)
