Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kaitohutohu Tauira - Student Adviser to join Te Here Tāura Rangahau - Faculty of Graduate Research, on a permanent, full-time basis.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide end to end postgraduate advisory services to a designated portfolio of students, staff, and managers using best practice case management principals.
- Have oversight of key candidature processes from enrolment up until submission including progress reports, annual registration and re-registration, suspensions, extensions, etc.
- Works as an effective member of the postgraduate research advisory team and actively contributes to the team’s goals.
- Collaborate effectively with Schools and Central Services Units around postgraduate processes.
- Develop and maintain a good understanding of relevant University regulations, policies, procedures, and services.

Key requirements:
- Knowledge of the postgraduate research environment.
- 5 years of experience working in a comparable role.
- A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree is essential; an Honours or Master’s degree is beneficial.
- Experience in dealing with University policies and procedures that relate to the nuances of postgraduate research.
- Experience in dealing with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in building positive relationships with cohorts.
- Demonstrated experience in proactively assisting others.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise a range of tasks and issues in a busy environment.
- Demonstrated time management and sound organisational skills.
- Demonstrated experience in accurate data entry into multiple systems.
- Proven ability to work with others to ensure key deadlines are met.
- Experience in dealing with sensitive issues with professionalism.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office suite, particularly SharePoint and Teams.
