Position Overview

Massey University’s School of Food Technology and Natural Sciences is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Technician in Molecular Biosciences to join our dynamic team in Palmerston North. In this full-time role, you will provide critical technical support for undergraduate molecular biosciences practical teaching, helping to create a safe, engaging, and effective learning environment.

You’ll ensure laboratory resources are well-prepared and maintained, support both in-person and online delivery, and contribute to the upkeep of research facilities and equipment. From setting up experiments and assisting with lab instruction, to maintaining safety compliance and managing inventories, your contribution will directly support the success of our students and teaching programmes.

  • A tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in biochemistry, molecular or cellular biology, or a related field
  • Hands-on laboratory experience (essential), ideally in an academic or research setting 
  • Knowledge of microbiology, chemistry, genetics, genomics, and ecology is an advantage
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset with strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with safe laboratory practice is an advantage
