Senior Systems Engineer - Infrastructure

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

The Senior Systems Engineer (Infrastructure) provides technical subject matter expertise across virtual infrastructure, public cloud platforms, and other core systems that support Massey’s business functions.

You’ll contribute to the development of technology standards, guidelines, and strategy for your domain, and collaborate across teams to ensure a joined-up approach to infrastructure services. This role also provides technical leadership within the Infrastructure team — balancing standard operations with innovation, and optimising systems through automation.

Āu mahi | What you will do

• Support the Principal Engineer with the design, provisioning, operation, security, and management of infrastructure systems
• Ensure service availability and lead improvements using available and emerging technologies
• Maintain the security and privacy of users and systems
• Enable improved user experiences through effective sourcing, implementation, and automation
• Provide high-quality technical advice and leadership
• Support strategic alignment through change initiatives
• Collaborate across teams to help achieve shared goals and strategic objectives

Ko koe tēnei | Who you are

• Tertiary qualification in IT, business management, or equivalent experience
• At least 5 years’ experience in a senior engineering or related role, working with physical and virtual infrastructure, public cloud platforms, enterprise-scale data storage, and related systems
• Experience in large, complex environments with hybrid infrastructure (cloud and on-premises)
• Understanding of strategic IT issues, especially in educational or government contexts
• Proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to projects
• Comfortable with ambiguity and adaptable in a changing environment
• Experience with incident, problem, change, release, and capacity management processes

Salary range: $80,894 – $113,805 per annum (depending on skills and experience).

This is a full-time position, preferably based at our Palmerston North campus. We are open to remote candidates who can be onsite 1–2 days per week.
