The Iho ā Kiwa, Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Pasifika provides strategic leadership to Te Herenga Waka leading Pasifika academic excellence in research and teaching, and supporting and amplifying the aspirations of Pacific learners.

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting an Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Pasifika. This is a permanent. full-time role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Strategic leadership of pan-University approaches to supporting success for Pasifika students and staff.
  • Policy development and programme implementation, supporting all areas of the University in activities relating to Pasifika staff and students.
  • Networking and relationship management within the Wellington region, the country and the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Leadership in advancing the aspirations of Pasifika academic achievement and professional staff development.
  • Supporting, monitoring, and evaluating student success within the framework of the Pasifika Student success plan and the University’s wider Learner Success Plan.
  • Staff management of the Office of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Pasifika.
  • Representing and advocating for the Pasifika voice at all levels of the University.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will have a deep knowledge and experience of Pasifika culture. You will also have an in-depth knowledge of the issues involved in the achievement of educational success by Pasifika students and a deep appreciation of the issues involved in the achievement of Pasifika staff advancement and career development.

You will be an experienced, well-known, and respected scholar, community, and leader, who is able to bring together the Pasifika diaspora and represent its presence in decision making, fundraising, and future aspirations.

Key requirements:

  • Experience in creating and delivering on strategies to support Pasifika thriving and success.
  • Deep knowledge and experience of the culture of Pacific peoples and cultural practices, including language.
  • A sound knowledge of the University environment and education sector.
  • A relevant academic qualification, preferably at higher degree level, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in a Pacific language or languages (fluency is desirable but not essential).
