Hours of work: One position (12.5 hours per week)

Massey University Library has physical and virtual library environments which provide access to scholarly resources for students and staff - anywhere, anytime, and well-designed spaces for individual study or collaboration.  


We are looking for a customer focused Library Client Services Assistant to join our frontline services team at the Auckland Campus Library. This is a permanent, part-time role involves rostered shifts, during the academic year only which runs from February to November.  Reporting to the Manager, Service Point and Client Engagement, your responsibilities will focus on the provision of high-quality enquiry, information, and circulation services across all opening hours, as well as undertaking general tasks which support the operation of the library. 


The successful candidate will be expected to have:   

  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • a high level of accuracy and attention to detail 
  • the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment 
  • excellent time management and organisational skills
  • a good level of physical fitness
  • a high level of digital literacy and an interest in new technologies
  • an affinity with the Te Tiriti o Waitangi-led direction of the University
  • a legal entitlement to commit to an ongoing permanent part-time role in New Zealand.


The successful applicant must have the ability to commit to the following shift for a minimum 12.5 hours per week during the academic year (1 weeknight shift + 1 day shift + 1 weekend shift).

3 hours: Tuesday 8am – 11am
5.5 hours: Wednesday 4pm – 10pm
4 hours: Sunday 2pm – 6pm


The ability to be flexible with working hours, take on additional shifts during staff absences and to swap shifts is critical to maintaining Library opening hours and client services.

As this role involves shift work, including evening and weekend shifts, access to personal transport is recommended. This position will include working on statutory or University holidays if the normal working day falls on a statutory or University holiday, unless the Library is closed on those days; the actual hours worked on this day may vary.

You’ll need to be reliable with excellent time management skills as part of our small after-hours team. This position is suited to someone who is local and interested in libraries and technology.
