Advance Māori research and teaching at Lincoln University in a permanent lecturer role focused on Indigenous Planning and Development.

Mō te tūka | The role

We're seeking a passionate early career academic to help accelerate Māori participation and research aspirations in Māori and Indigenous Planning and Development, as part of our Māori Early Career Academic Programme.

Based at our Te Waihora campus, this permanent position supports the Whanake Ake programme and offers the opportunity to embed mātauraka Māori across teaching and research while growing your academic career in a supportive, kaupapa Māori-aligned environment.

Environmental Management at Lincoln University is a wonderfully collegial and energised department that has been teaching and researching environmental management for 50 years and is well-recognised for expertise in Maori and indigenous planning. This role would be involved in teaching two degrees that are professionally accredited by the NZ Planning Institute and the faculty supports professional practice and impactful, applied research.

Some tasks of the role include:

  • Teaching courses that integrate Māori, Pasifika and Indigenous perspectives
  • Contributing to course design, delivery and assessment in a supportive team
  • Pursuing research that aligns with Māori and Indigenous methodologies
  • Actively working towards completing a PhD (or publishing post-PhD)
  • Engaging with Māori communities and research teams across disciplines
  • Supporting unit and university-wide initiatives, including Treaty commitments

Permanent role, 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE) at our Lincoln Campus, commencing Semester 2, July 2025.

The salary is fixed at Lecturer: Grade A6, $86,065 per annum.

Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role

You will have:

  • Proven engagement with Iwi, Hapu and other Māori entities
  • Knowledge of Māori approaches to environmental or land-based disciplines
  • Eligibility for membership of the NZ Planning Institute
  • Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and research
  • Evidence of research potential or growing publication record
  • Strong communication skills and cultural competency
  • A commitment to kaupapa Māori and advancing mātauraka Māori
