Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
We're looking for a hands-on and highly skilled Mechanical Technician to support the teaching and research programmes in the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering. In this diverse and rewarding role, you'll apply your specialist trade knowledge to design, build, maintain, and modify a wide range of equipment used in labs, workshops, and industrial settings. Whether you're fabricating bespoke apparatus, guiding students in the workshop, maintaining plant and equipment, or helping deliver the Industrial Hardware course, your expertise will be essential to the success of our programmes. If you thrive on technical problem-solving, enjoy working with a wide range of materials and machinery, and love the idea of supporting future engineers in a collaborative, student-focused environment — we'd love to hear from you!

Mōu | Who You Are
You will have proficient (minimum 7+ years) relevant trade experience within complex environments, including proficient experience applying technical design knowledge and skills. as well as have:

  • Advanced specialised trade skills (e.g. Fitting and Turning, Toolmaking, Machining)
  • Ability to machine and weld a wide range of materials to exacting tolerances.
  • High quality fabricating skills to the standard required (e.g. woodworking, pipework, assembly, etc.).
  • Ability to weld a variety of metals to a high skill level (e.g. Arc, Mig, Tig, Spot, Oxy-acetylene ect.)
  • Experience and knowledge to be able to maintain a wide variety of laboratory, workshop and teaching equipment
  • A current full Driver's License (New Zealand, manual transmission)
  • Old Trade Certificate(s) NZQA Level 4 or equivalent
