Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a permanent, full-time Teaching Technology Technician to join the Teaching Technology team in Te Tai Matihiko - Digital Solutions. The role involves supporting day-to-day operations after-hours, typically defined as shifts from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for entry-level technicians.

Additionally, it includes proactive maintenance through frequent and regular room checks in audiovisual-equipped teaching, learning, and meeting spaces. The role also involves providing event support to ensure the efficient handling of audiovisual requirements for events. The goal is to enable all staff to excel when using audiovisual, presentation, and recording technologies within both business and academic contexts. Responsibilities may include maintaining and supporting existing equipment in teaching and learning environments or meeting rooms, setting up temporary or ad hoc solutions for content delivery in any University space, recording and video production, and assisting and training in teaching and learning applications, as well as the use of existing or emerging digital technologies.

Key responsibilities:

  • Pro-active maintenance support by way of regular and frequent physical checks of the audiovisual systems in permanently equipped teaching, learning, meeting, and collaboration spaces.
  • Monitor and respond to faults reported by the Remote Management System (AMX RMS).
  • Provide conference and events support after hours.
  • Set-up, delivery, and collection of AV-IT hardware as required to support teaching or business outcomes of the customer in any space being used in a university context.
  • Provide general technical support for videoconference meetings (or teaching over this medium).
  • Respond to AV and IT-related requests, faults, incidents, and problems in accordance with DS standards, policies and procedures, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Key requirements:

  • Ability to work for extended periods autonomously or without supervision.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical issues to non-technical people.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and remain calm in high-profile situations.
  • Capability to liaise effectively and professionally with customers.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft systems (hardware and software).
  • Ability to work to standards, policies and procedures in place at a large institution.
  • A basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP and associated services.
  • Ability to complete documentation to a high standard.
  • A full clean driving license.
