Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Training Coordinator to join the Health, Safety and Wellbeing team on a permanent, fulltime basis. The role will be responsible for supporting our amazing academic and professional kaimahi to do their best work in a health, well and safe way. In 2024 we launched Kia Haumaru, Kia Matatū—the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Strategy, this Strategy provides us with a clear focus that will enable us to achieve our vision of having a healthy and thriving community, where all who moor their waka with us are safe and well.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the HSW Systems, Performance and Assurance Lead with the deployment online training using Nuku (the University’s Learning Management System)
- Respond to training enquiries in liaison with the HSW Business Partners and the Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity Lead and external providers.
- Manage and maintain training databases and records.
- Support the reporting of training performance measures for Te Hiwa (the University’s SLT), ARC and University Council reports.
- Help with the development and formatting of online training material.
- Maintain databases and contact lists of health and safety representatives, fire wardens and emergency cluster volunteers.
- Provide support to the HSW Business Partners for the local HSW committees.

You will:
- Be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder, who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team.
- Need effective time management and forward planning to balance the various work streams in the role (training coordination, digital channels and external relationships).
- Be someone that can look at the big picture and think about how training can be best delivered to achieve the learning outcomes in a large and complex organisation.
Key requirements:
- Experience in the coordination of training in large complex environment.
- A background in working with Learning Management Systems.
- Knowledge of the basics of HSW and Emergency Management.
- Outstanding people and communication skills including the ability to adjust to different audiences.
- Highly organised and proficient with digital channels.
- Capability to work as part of a team as well as having individual responsibilities.
