At Massey University, we’re more than just an institution—we’re a community of leaders, innovators, and change-makers. As a Tiriti-led university, we are committed to excellence, inclusivity, and future-focused leadership.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised Operations Coordinator to join our team in a part-time (30 hrs p/w) role at the Sports & Event Centre (SEC) on our Manawatū Campus. In this key support role to the Operations Manager, you'll help deliver high-quality events and ensure the smooth running of our facilities, including the SEC, accommodation (Walter Dyer & Moginie Halls), public event spaces, MCAT, hockey turf, and surrounding grounds.

About the Role

You’ll be the primary contact for event and accommodation enquiries, ensuring professional and timely communication and follow-through. This includes:

  • Managing bookings and maximising occupancy and event revenue.
  • Coordinating event logistics such as venue set-up, catering, AV, and client requirements.
  • Providing on-the-day event support and maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Liaising with clients, particularly within the secondary school and national sports markets.
  • Overseeing accommodation preparation and check-in/check-out processes.
  • Supporting casual staff and maintaining health & safety protocols as Building Warden.
  • Proactively managing facility appearance, supplies, maintenance, and contractor liaison.

This role includes work outside of standard hours and on weekends, depending on event schedules.

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in hospitality, accommodation, events, or sports environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., MS Office, booking systems).

Preferred Qualifications (Training can be provided)

  • Qualification in Hospitality, Business, or Sports Management.
  • NZQA Food Safety Unit 167 (essential).
  • LCQ and Bar Manager’s Licence.
  • First Aid Certificate (essential).
  • Full, clean driver’s licence.

Why Join Us?

  • No two days are the same work with a variety of people and events.
  • Be part of a vibrant, supportive team making a real impact.
  • Enjoy professional development opportunities and a competitive benefits package.
  • Help shape the success and reputation of Massey’s sports and events facilities.
  • Salary band: $58,038 – $82,006 per annum (dependent on experience).
