Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
Working under the guidance of experienced electricians you will perform maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems and equipment across the university's facilities. You'll have hands-on learning opportunities to develop technical skills, gain industry knowledge and qualifications, while contributing to the operational efficiency and safety of the university's infrastructure. 

You will complete a structured training program, combining on-the-job training with formal education modules that cover topics such as tool use and safety; electrical systems diagnostics and troubleshooting; schematic reading and interpretation; and preventive maintenance practices.  You will undertake on and off job assessments and Electrical Workers Registration Board exams in your final year.

You will have a genuine interest in electrical systems, equipment and machinery as well as:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and take direction
  • strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • good communication skills and an eagerness to learn
  • NCEA Level 2 or equivalent
  • physical fitness to perform tasks, including lifting and moving heavy equipment
  • willingness to work in industrial environments, such as noisy, hot, or confined spaces
  • good computer skills
  • basic understanding of workplace safety practices
  • an alignment with our organisation's values and culture, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.

The following attributes are highly desirable but not essential:

  • Technical coursework in electrical engineering
  • Pre-trade completion
  • Current full NZ Driver's licence

Working with our experienced and professional Facilities Management Trades Services team you will be a part of the wider Te Ratonga Whakahaere Paenga | Facilities Management team, who provide and coordinate all estate and facility-related services at a strategic, tactical and operational level across our entire campus. UC is made up of approximately 150 buildings across 87 hectares, covering a Gross Floor Area of 223,000m2.
