Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are seeking a Research Fellow to join the Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI), contributing to the Heart Mechanics Research Group. This position is funded by the Health Research Council (HRC) programme grant and will focus on advanced cardiac imaging, modelling, and analysis to develop and translate novel medical imaging and biophysical modelling tools to the clinic.
In this role, you will:
- Analyse cardiac images to create personalised heart models from medical imaging databases.
- Perform quantitative analyses of cardiac metrics for comparison between demographic and pathological groups.
- Contribute to leading and coordinating local cardiac imaging studies.
- Translate, test, and validate novel model-based imaging tools.
- Publish high-impact research in leading international journals.
- Present findings at renowned local and international conferences.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), fixed-term contract for 24 months. The salary is $97,831 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

We are looking for a candidate with expertise in mathematical modelling, biomedical engineering, and cardiac image analysis. The ideal candidate will:
- Hold a PhD in Bioengineering, Engineering, Medical Imaging, or a related field.
- Have experience in mathematical modelling and image-processing methods development.
- Demonstrate strong written and oral research communication skills.
- Be a team player with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Have a keen interest in translating research into clinical applications.
