Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are looking for a Mental Health Clinician to join our team. In this role you will support Te Papa Manaaki | Campus Care’s service for urgent presentations and students in distress. This includes gathering information, assessing need, identifying the appropriate support for the student and providing communication and coordination support as required. The role will use clinical assessments to triage needs and determine support or referral to services. The role provides advice and support to staff members across the University who require assistance in responding to a student in distress or urgent presentation. The Mental Health Clinician will also liaise with appropriate services and faculty to support the management of crisis and risk situations and provide follow-up support and training on Campus Care processes.
This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week role on a permanent contract. The salary range for this role is $80,900 - $99,900 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

He kōrero mōu | About you
Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant field
- Fully registered under the Health Practitioner Competence Assurance (HPCA) Act 2003, e.g., nurse, psychologist, psychotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker etc
- A current annual practicing certificate
Skills and experience:
- A minimum of 4 years’ experience working with clients that are affected by a range of social, physical and psychological issues, preferably with students or young people.
- Demonstrable understanding and experience of crisis and risk management, managing urgent presentations and distress, and de-escalation techniques
- Experience working with young people and providing support services.
- High level of cultural competence
- 6 months to 1 years’ experience making complex assessments and decisions.
- Ability to provide comprehensive clinical assessments and triage.
- Knowledge or awareness of the issues affecting students and young people.
