Te Whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We are currently looking for an experienced Gallery Assistant to join the gallery team and support them with day-to-day visitor flow and artwork invigilation. The role is offered on a fixed term part-time (0.4FTE) basis to be worked on Fridays and Saturdays during the exhibition Derek Jarman: Delphinium Days, 15 June – 14 September 2024.    

Accountabilities

  • Manage gallery visitor flow and safe viewing of artworks in gallery spaces through roaming invigilation and monitoring.
  • Contribute to front of house procedures and instil best practice through the upkeep of gallery spaces.  
  • Provide a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors to the gallery and be a point of information about the exhibition.
  • Assist the team with the smooth running of gallery events and functions.

Salary is $49,000 per annum prorated.

Our ideal candidate

Ideally, you will have prior experience of working as part of a gallery team in a front of house capacity. You will have demonstrable experience of working in a public space to monitor audience engagement. You will be a confident communicator and understand allyship of LGBTQIA+ communities.

You will also have:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Ability to instil best practice and problem solve when necessary.
  • Ability to work in a small and committed team.
