Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity


We are seeking a Lead Research Programme Manager who will be responsible for the leadership of Research Programme Managers (RPMs) and Research Programme Coordinators within the Faculty & Institute Research Services Team structure, providing planning and guidance for research administration and management activities.

This is a multifaceted role designed to support our research activities through:

Staff Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction to team members and take steps to foster a high-performance team culture that is inclusive, flexible and encourages excellence.
  • Monitor individual and team performance and take active steps to improve service quality.

Operational Activities

  • Act as a point of escalation, advice and support for complex research management and administration issues from the team.
  • Ensure all University relevant governance and compliance guidelines and policy are communicated and adhered to.
  • Identify and implement service quality improvement initiatives in the Faculty & Institute Research Services Team (FIRST) and participate in University-wide initiatives as required.

Strategy & Planning

  • Contribute to the development of the strategic and annual operational plans for research services.
  • Progress delivery of research programmes/projects against the Faculty Research strategy, such that the performance and reputation of the Faculty is enhanced.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent role.
Remuneration: $95,000 - $115,000 per annum dependent on experience

He kōrero mōu | About you
To be considered for this role it is essential that you have Bachelors’ degree or relevant tertiary qualification. Having a Postgraduate qualification or Postgraduate research qualification would be a bonus but is not essential.  

Essential Experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a research-intensive environment and/or managing similar research projects.
  • Proven administration and people management experience in a complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in team building, change management and working co-operatively
