Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

The Projects Engineer (Specializing in Thermodynamics and Fluid Dynamics) plays a pivotal role in advancing teaching and research, with a primary focus on the fields of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics. This crucial position contributes a foundational knowledge base and specialized expertise, fostering the success of a diverse array of teaching and research endeavors. Ensuring a high level of support, the role emphasizes exceptional mentoring, creating a positive and enriching educational experience for students at UC. While centered on core responsibilities, this role demands a highly motivated individual who consistently demonstrates initiative, continually seeking innovative ways to add value within our dynamic and evolving organization.

Mōu | Who You Are
A successful applicant will have significant (minimum 3 years) experience working on complex and diverse engineering R&D projects in the general field of Mechanical Engineering, including the following:

  • Significant experience (minimum 3 years) working on complex projects that required application of both experimental and computational fluids analysis, either together or separately.
  • Ability to use general workshop tools and specialised laboratory equipment in a safe and proficient manner.
  • Ability to document work to a professional standard, including writing technical engineering reports.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
  • An understanding of the engineering research environment and of technical experimental design.
  • Proficient computer user including competence in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet and data acquisition/control (e.g. National Instruments LabView) programmes.
  • A working knowledge of Health and Safety procedures, legislation and obligations to other staff, students and visitors.
