Position Overview

Massey University Hospitality Services operates multiple small and large venue spaces across the Wellington Campus. We are seeking an experienced Functions and Events supervisor to join our team. Tussock is Massey University's Wellington Hospitality business unit. Tussock is responsible for delivery five-day a week café operation, catering services & internal and external events across a range of venues. We are seeking a high energy individual with a great customer service focus to join us in a full-time minimum of 40 hours per week” face to the place" role.

In this varied, interesting and hands role you will be key to providing professional service delivery and ensuring customer satisfaction, a minimum of two years’ experience within the events industry is preferred. Some weekend and evening work required.

Reporting to the Customer Service Manager you will contribute as a part of the team to identify ways to enhance and develop our services, profile and reputation of the unit as a unique, preferred, quality dining and catering experience. In this hands-on role, you will oversee functions and/or catering deliveries from the set- up, through service delivery, to pack down and may require you to assist in the setup of functions or relocate tables and chairs to venue sites - to succeed in this role you will require a high level of physical fitness. You will also have advanced organisational and communication skills and the ability to work within a professional hospitality team. Your experience will have provided you with Barista skills, and a NZQA Food & Safety 167 and/or bar manager’s certificate would be an advantage. Those with NZQA Food and Safety 167 or Bar Manager’s License will be held in high regard.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • have a minimum of two years’ experience in an events or function role
  • be passionate about making delivering memorable events in a fast-paced environment
  • enjoy working with a wide range of customers; including student, staff & VIPs
  • be available to work as required depending on needs on the events
  • be available for the occasional shift outside of our normal trading hours (special events)
